I used to read business development books and underline and highlight passages that helped me remember and learn.
- Then, I decided to write notes on post its and the pages were filled with colors and paper.
- Then I wrote my notes on 3×5 cards and thought I’d found the perfect way to learn and retain information from books I loved.
This year, I decided to write in a READING JOURNAL and I feel I’ve finally found the BEST way to read, retain and learn from books that have helped me figure ways to intertwine information to help me grow my business .
Reviewing my READING JOURNAL has been a delight and I thought I’d share with you the 10 Best Business books I read this year that helped me grow my business.
BOOK REVIEW 2022
#1 Four Thousand Weeks – Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Binkeman This book was a delight and eye opener. He says, “Assuming you live to be 80, you have just over 4,000 weeks in your life span and he gives you tools for constructing a meaningful life using those 4,000 weeks. However, what I loved most was when he wrote…
“Nobody in the history of humanity has ever achieved – work – life – balance.”
That to me is a revelation as so many of my clients are wanting achieve this. As he points out, “We must live our lives as it unfolds in time.”
As you move into the next 52 weeks in 2023, think about how you will make the most of your 4,000 weeks! You could join my ACCOUNTABILITY LAB program and get feedback from a power partner to help you balance your life and your business.
#2 Do What you Love What You Do by Holly Tucker, MBE. I absolutely loved this book. It’s all about feeling good, having purpose and living what she calls the GOOD LIFE.
Here’s a video why her book is a great perspective on one of the most important ways to live your life is to simply BE HAPPY! Please subscribe to my You Tube Channel.
CLICK HERE#3 The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran This has become one of those books I refer to often. That’s because I love setting Weekly Goals. His premise is that when you have a goal and a deadline the deadline creates urgency and it creates opportunities and breakthroughs.
So, I’m very vigilant with my weekly goals, using my WEEKLY DESKTOP NOTEPAD as part of my planning system that has been a game changer.
And yes, I ripped out all those old POST IT NOTES!
#4 The Power of Discipline by Daniel Walter This book was on my shelf for a long time before I got to it. Here’s what he says that is so true, “Discipline is about doing what you’ve got to do even when you don’t feel like it. But you have to be consistent.”
I practice “discipline” every day keeping all my notes in my ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL. When I teach this “discipline” to my coaching clients, they love it and follow the system.
#5 The Power of Habit, by Charles Duhig This is a book where I tore out all the post it notes and re-read it using my Journal writing note system. It was a great refresher reflecting on the value of KEYSTONE HABITS!
From the book: “Keystone habits are habits that trigger great change and cause great shifts. They offer small wins. They help other habits flourish by creating new structures and they establish cultures where change becomes contagious. “
I love developing habits and helping my clients develop habits. I followed his “Habit Framework” to develop my productivity products to work specifically for me. READ THIS BOOK!!
THOSE blue post its are in the trash!
#6 The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz PhD. This Doctor of Philosophy, David J. Schwartz gives you a list of what his book will do when you read it. My top 3 are
- You’ll believe you can succeed and you will.
- Use goals to help you grow
- Build confidence and destroy fear.
He even gives you BIG THINK vocabulary to use every day. Cheerful words and phrases. Compliments and encouraging others, and most of all positive words to outline your plans for the future. Don’t miss reading this book.
THINK BIG THIS YEAR AND JOIN THE ACCOUNTABILITY LAB
#7 “Life Force” by Tony Robbins
This is not a business book per se. However, you know Tony Robbins, right? He is the guru of self-development and everything he shares I pay attention to. This is a book of HOPE FOR THE FUTURE of health. Living a long life. He shares all the new health and technological benefits that are coming in the future. After reading this book, I believe our life span will get longer and longer. And we’ll be much healthier in those later years.
He shares the future of how stem cells, “young” stem cells, Placenta and Artificial Intelligence will play a huge role in our health for the future. It is a fascinating read into the world of medical breakthroughs, healing and answers that can transform your life.
#8 Contagious by Jonah Berger. This was a great read on the principles of why things catch on and become contagious. It certainly a “must read” in today’s world of social media influencers. He outlines the six “stepps” why things become viral and will most likely spread.
Yes, S.T.E.P.P.S. which are
- Social currency sharing things to talk about our products.
- Triggers that are the stimulus to remind people to talk about products.
- Emotion where we craft messages that make people feel something.
- Public showing people how to use our products
- Practical Value sharing information about our products that is of value to others.
- Stories that embed products to be so valuable.
This year, I’m applying these principles as I produce more productivity products to be more efficient without diving into overwhelm.
#9 Laziness Does not Exist by Devon Price, PhD.
I have to admit, I’m only half way through this book because I became enthralled in reading Book #10 (below.)
In the first few chapters, he outlines a great case for setting limits on how you work, setting your own schedule and ruling your life according to your own priorities.
I’ll be reviewing this book in 2023, so keep an eye out for the FULL review on this blog.
#10 Clockwork by Mike Michalowicz This book is about real, actionable, business efficiency strategies. A subject I’m passionate about. Mike says, “The goal is not to find more hours in the day. The goal is organizational efficiency.”
I coach and mentor my clients about running your business like a well-oiled machine with systems and strategies and structure. At the end of the day it’s all about getting the work done that matters most.
That’s why in the 2023 Planner on every weekly page you’ll find a big square to write “What Matters Most this week.”
He lays out a strategy of six stages to make your business run itself. The most fascinating stage is #2 where you have to discover the QUEEN BEE ROLE in your business. This is the core function in your business that determines your company’s success. This is the ONE function that keeps the business going. For me, this is teaching people how to CREATE GROWTH GOALS in their business, and it all begins with my 90-day Goal Strategy. Download it here.
What is your QUEEN BEE ROLE? What is the CORE of your business? The one thing that will keep moving your business forward? I wrote 14 pages of notes on this book. And I highly recommend you read it in 2023.
That’s a wrap for the TOP 10 Books I read in 2022.
