How many times in your day do you find you have 15-minutes of time to spare? In his book, Success Happens, Dr. Tom Barrett shares a powerful concept about capturing 15-minutes of focused time. He says:
“To have a great year, you need to have a great quarter, and how do you have a great quarter?
To have a great quarter, you need to have a great month, and how do you have a great month?
The next answer is you need to have a great week, and how do you have a great week?
You need to have a great day! So, are you wondering how you can have a great day in your business?
The answer to this question is the key that will put everything else in motion. It is the starting point that determines the end point. Knowing what makes a great day possible lets you know what it takes to have a great week, month, quarter, and year. In fact, when you can answer this question and take action… your life, business, and team will never be the same. Successful people take the question one step further, How “do” I have a great day in my business? And the answer is four simple words:
Focus for 15-minutes.
These 15-minutes of focus are simultaneously the most important and, for many, the least desirable parts of the week. But if you understand this brief discomfort for 15-minutes, it will change your business and your future by setting in motion a series of events that inevitably results in success.”
I love this book. What Tom is talking about is focusing on working on tasks we usually procrastinate. We know customer service is an important part of follow-up, but how many times do we put it off to another day. Why? Because it’s uncomfortable – yes, out of our comfort zone. However, if we apply the 15-minute rule that Tom suggests and be “uncomfortable” for 15 minutes we will see immediate results in our business.
I call these 15 minute bites – micro habits, and if you incorporate “five” micro habits into your daily life, you could drastically transform your productivity in just 15 minutes each day.
Here are the 5 micro habits I suggest …
Micro Habit #1 – A 15-Minute Morning Routine: Sets the Tone for the Day. Starting your day with a 15-minute morning routine can set the tone for a productive day. Whether it’s meditation, stretching, or simply organizing your workspace, these 15-minutes can help you mentally prepare for the tasks ahead. A consistent morning routine signals to your brain that it’s time to focus, setting a positive and productive momentum for the rest of the day.
If you’re read the book, “The Miracle Morning,” by Hal Elrod; He shares when you incorporate activities like waking up early, exercising, meditating, eating a nutritious breakfast, you set yourself up for success from the moment you wake up.
I know this to be true because it’s my own daily routine. I’m a 4am girl and I love following my morning routine. I recommend Hal’s book to all my clients because this 15-minute micro habit not only boosts your physical and mental well-being it also enhances your focus, your energy levels and productivity throughout the whole day. And that’s what makes it a game changer because it’s the beginning of how you approach your daily life.

#2 Micro-Habit – A 15-Minute Journaling Routine: Clear Your Mind and Boost Productivity. Taking 15 minutes to journal each day can significantly enhance your productivity. Journaling allows you to clear your mind, prioritize tasks, and reflect on your goals. Writing down your thoughts and to-dos helps you organize your day and reduces the mental clutter that can hinder productivity. It’s a simple practice, but its impact is profound.
I journal every evening. I take 15-minutes before my head hits the pillow to journal about my day, and how I’m feeling.
Some people believe journaling is difficult and baseless, but for me I learn from past experiences and discover new lessons in life. Things I write about are:
- What happened today?
- What am I grateful for today?
- What is holding me back?
- Who do I need to talk to?
- What decisions have I made today?
This micro-habit of journaling for 15-minutes is the most powerful time of my day. Check out the Daily Journal here.
Micro Habit #3: 15-Minutes of Client Follow-Up – The Key to Sales and Future Business. Spending 15 minutes a day on client follow-ups can bring about productive results in sales and future business. Whether it’s a quick check-in email, a follow-up call, or a message to thank a client, these small efforts can lead to big returns. Consistently nurturing your relationships with clients keeps you top-of-mind and demonstrates that you value their business.
One system I recommend to my coaching clients is to create a Weekly Follow-up Worksheet where you connect with 10 customers/clients every week. Every Sunday you make a note of the 10 people to connect with for the week and when you find 15 minutes of time, you send a text, make a phone call or book a time to meet for coffee. This system never fails you if you use it wisely as a 15-minute micro habit every week.
Micro Habit #4 – Read 10 Pages a Day: Sharpen Your Mind. Dedicate 15 minutes to reading 10 pages of a book every day. This micro habit not only improves your knowledge but also sharpens your mind. Reading exposes you to new ideas, strategies, and perspectives that can inspire you and enhance your decision-making skills. Over time, these small daily investments in reading add up to significant personal and professional growth.
My goal is to read 1-2 Novels and 1-2 Personal Development books every month. Learn about my three top personal development books that I recommend to all my clients to help them achieve their goals and grow their business.
Micro Habit #5: 15-Minute End of Day Tidy-Up: Declutter Your Workspace. A cluttered workspace can lead to a cluttered mind. Spend 15 minutes at the end of each day tidying up your workspace. Whether it’s organizing your desk, filing papers, or clearing out your email inbox, these 15 minutes can help you start the next day with a clean slate. A well-organized workspace reduces distractions and promotes a more focused and efficient work environment.

Next time you find yourself with a spare 15 minutes, I recommend you dedicating your time to at least ONE to these activities and turn it into a MICRO HABIT.
You’ll find success in the results you get not just for the day, but for the week, month, and year ahead. If this resonates with you forward this post to a friend who could use it.
