I think the New Year is one of the most thought-provoking times of the year! It’s that time when I gather my thoughts together to prepare for the next year. The way I prepare for the new year is using my “go-to” tool which is my Direct Sales Planner! I thought today I’d share with you exactly how you too can be prepared for a fantastic upcoming new year in 2019. Here are the 6 ways I recommend you prepare for the New Year.
#1 Set a specific time for your Planning Session. This is so important! We think we can make plans in between taking orders, scrolling through facebook and Instagram, answering emails. STOP right there! If you truly want a successful year carve out a 2 hour time slot to PLAN!
#2 In your Planning Session make time for THINKING. When you make time for thinking, your mind gets creative. When you’re thinking ask yourself some positive questions. Questions like
- What worked in 2018? Then shift to
- What would I have done differently in 2018?
These questions will help you empty everything out of your head! As you think, then begin to write things down. Write them down on the BRAIN DUMP page of the Direct Sales Planner! Use Post it notes, or simply write in the squares. When you do this exercise you are thinking on purpose and deciding what you truly want in your business. Getting it out of your head and writing it down, helps your brain come up with new ideas.
#3 Be purposeful in writing down your B.H.A.G. Once you have all those delicious thoughts out of your head and written down on your Brain Dump page, you become very clear with what you truly want in your business. At the dinner table this week, my daughter said, “My BIG GOAL is to ….” She had that goal in mind and she said it like, it would be nice to hit that goal, but it’s a really big stretch. Well, that’s what a B.H.A.G. is – it’s your BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOAL! One that makes you a little bit scared, you want it, but not sure if you can do it! (You’ll be surprised how this works.) Once you write it down in a paragraph form, even if you say, “My goal this year is to… and it’s a really big stretch.” Writing down those words you’ve declared it out loud! Get ready for success!
#4 Be intentional about your Top 3 Goals. They say our brains understand, remember and feel a sense of completeness for things that come in threes. I know from my experience when I want to create a project, I always break it down into three steps – three ways – three ideas. When you come up with three SUB Goals that align with your B.H.A.G. you’ll have super clarity! You’ll create a rhythm on how to begin to get there, you’ll know exactly what to do in the middle of getting there and you’ll know how to end the year to achieve this wonderful BIG HAIRY thing you want! Again you MUST write them down! Writing down three SUB goals or they can even be three IDEAS that push you through anxiety and frustration towards hitting the first sub goal.
#5 Ask yourself positive questions. They must be positive questions, like, “How will I make more money this year?” or “How will I fill my calendar consistently with parties this year? Ask questions that you have the answers. It’s like when I want to know something, I go to Google. Google always has answers and maybe it’s not exact, but it puts me on the right road to find the answer. Tony Robbins says, “If you brains says, I don’t know.. then you say, what would it say if it did know?”
#6 Then, ask yourself the Big Question. This is the question that I ask all my clients in our goal setting sessions. Most of my clients know exactly how to answer this question, because they’ve done the work of 1 thru 5 above! They have
- Made time to plan
- Made time to Think
- Come up with a B.H.A.G. (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)
- Created three SUB goals or Ideas for the year
- Asked themselves positive questions
So, by the time they get to the BIG QUESTION, they are ready.. Are you ready? Here it is “Where do you want to be ONE YEAR from today in your business?
