As entrepreneurs running our businesses from home, it’s easy to fall into the trap of prioritizing work above all else. We’re motivated, passionate, and driven to dive into projects that generate revenue. It’s a common trait among entrepreneurs who love what they do—they’ll keep working until the job is done!
However, the ONE thing entrepreneurs should never do is “neglect themselves.”
Yes, I’m talking about self-care!
Whether it’s your health, mental well-being, or personal growth, neglecting self-care depletes your energy, diminishes focus, and ultimately affects your business.
Here are 5 compelling reasons why self-care should be a priority
#1 Burnout Leads to Reduced Productivity: When you push yourself without rest, you risk exhaustion. Burnout results in reduced focus and poor decision-making.
On the flip side, when you’re well-rested and energized, you accomplish more in less time. Taking care of your body and mind boosts your efficiency and overall effectiveness.
#2 Your Health Directly Impacts Your Business: Skipping meals or sitting for hours to finish a project might feel productive, but it takes a toll on your health. These habits are warning signs that it’s time to prioritize self-care.
When you focus on your health, you’ll gain the stamina needed to sustain and grow your business over the long term.
#3 Ignoring Personal Development Stagnates Growth: Personal development is a crucial aspect of self-care. It fuels your growth and ensures you’re constantly learning and evolving. In my series, Entrepreneurs Who Work from Home, I ask every entrepreneur about their personal development journey.

#4 Neglecting Self-Care Disrupts Work-Life Balance: Many entrepreneurs I’ve interviewed in my Entrepreneurs Who Work from Home video series share their strategies for work-life balance. For example, small business and mastermind expert, Karyn Greenstreet, emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries:
Karyn says, “Your personal life is equally important as your working life, and you have to be really clear about time boundaries.” Karyn takes an hour-long lunch every day and decompresses after work with a walk in nature. “The energy of nature centers us, calms us, clarifies us, refreshes us! Getting out and moving our bodies empties our minds.”
Entrepreneurs who prioritize balance often feel more fulfilled and purposeful.
#5. Strong Routines and Habits Keep You Grounded: As entrepreneurs, we live a very busy life because we wear so many hats. Having strong routines and habits helps us feel less scattered and focused. For example, most of the entrepreneurs I’ve interviewed in my series, have an END OF DAY routine. Whether it’s clearing their desk, writing in a journal, or making a list for the next day, it’s a routine that gives them structure for the day.
A consistent routine or habit reflection keeps you grounded, productive, and ready to tackle challenges.
Self-care is a non-negotiable part of running a successful business from home. Your business can’t thrive if you’re running on empty—it’s that simple.
When you prioritize self-care, personal growth, and health, your entire life and business will thrive.
