This week, I loved hearing from a past coaching client who updated me on her business success and family. She thanked me for keeping in touch and my positive encouragement. Over the two years we worked together we had formed an amazing friendship, and of course, I loved to hear how the work we did together had an impact on her success.
It made me think back to when I made a decision to hire a coach! I knew I needed help, but all I could think about was the “cost” in spending the money. I had reached the first level of leadership, but I was quite a long way from earning that $10,000 a month commission income.
I thought I could do it all myself. I was committed to learning how to motivate my team. I would spend money on training and subscribed to direct sales publications and read as much as possible to help me become a better leader. I really didn’t think spending money on a coach was worth it.
A colleague asked me if I was interested in hiring a coach. I was about to turn it down, but I was curious, so I opted in for the complimentary strategy session. In that session, I found a person who was so warm and friendly, but most of all I felt she was someone who “got” me. She understood where I wanted to go with my business and so I hired her and thought I’d try it for a couple of months.
Little did I know how much hiring a coach would expand my business. As we worked together and formed that friendship of support, trust and accountability, I realized my coach knew how to push me by
- Asking the right questions
- Helping me discover answers to problems with her positive suggestions
- Finding the right solutions to expanding my business.
Most of all I know I would not have hit the #1 position in my company without my coach guiding me to support and grow my team to be that position hitting over 3 million in sales.
Here are three important tips I learned from my coach. I pass these on to my private coaching clients and today, I’m passing them on to you.
#1 Surround yourself with positivity. Learn from personal development books, and workshops. Join organizations that focus on helping others. Hang out with people who are positive and professional. My coach was an expert in D.I.S.C. Behavior assessment and this tool helped me learn how to encourage and inspire each member of my team for positive success. This tool is what I work with my own coaching clients today.
#2 Set goals with deadlines. I love to set goals. My coach taught me the importance of setting deadlines to achieve those goals. Goals are easy to set, but the art of tracking your progress and staying focused on meeting the deadline, is the key to success in growing your team. This was the one tool that helped me track a 3-month team recruiting campaign that tripled our team growth and set us on the path to the million dollar circle.
# Create a “No Excuses” Approach. How often do you think, “this is hard” and you say to yourself, “maybe I should quit this business.” I credit my warm, understanding coach helping me get through these times, as the ONE THING that grew my income to six-figures. Running a million dollar team is work! My coach helped me develop my own signature approach to winning. I call it the W.I.T.A. which is an acronym for the “Whatever It Takes Approach” to running your business. That involves your mindset.
When you think things are “too hard,” or you think “nobody wants to book with me,” that’s when you have to pivot your mind to keep going and adopt the W.I.T.A into your business.
These three things I learned from my coach over a glorious two-year relationship. We get where we want to be because of the decisions we make in our life. I am so glad I made that decision to work with my coach.
