Be productive using this Time Blocking Exercise

In the whirlwind of balancing life and business, finding ways to boost your productivity can seem like an insurmountable challenge.  Keeping up with work, business, personal commitments, and even self care can be overwhelming.  When working with my private clients I share with them a simple, yet powerful technique that helps them take control of their time and achieve a sense of balance.

My TIME BLOCKING EXERCISE is a game-changing strategy that is part of my PURPOSEFUL PLANNER SYSTEM that helps you reclaim your schedule and make every week purposeful.

WE BEGIN BY CREATING A SIMPLE WEEKLY GRID

Exercise for time blocking

Simply draw a grid on a blank piece of paper making blocks of time of morning, afternoon and evening for each day of the week.  Then you follow these THREE steps.

Be committedSTEP 1:  COMMITTED TIME.  Picture this:  It’s Sunday night and you’re armed with your 2024 PLANNER system.  The first step in the Time Blocking exercise is to allocate your ‘COMMITTED TIME.”  These are you non-negotiables for the week.  They are work hours, time with family and children, or any volunteer commitments.  These are those tasks that “MUST” – not “should” get done!  When you work in the purposeful planner system, you know exactly what your non-negotiables every week.  In your grid, mark these BLOCKS of time for each day with a BOLD “C.”  This step ensures that the core pillars of your life and business are firmly established, creating a foundation for a well-rounded week.

COMMITTED TIME  IS YOUR NON-NEGOTIABLE TASKS FOR THE WEEK.

 

Enjoy lifestyle time

STEP 2:  LIFESTYLE TIME.  Now it’s time to infuse your week with elements that bring you joy and fulfillment.  Mark you grid with an “L” for blocks that involve lifestyle activities such as exercise, family time or self care.  Unlike committed time, lifestyle time is more flexible and subject to change.  This step allows you to prioritize activities that contribute to your overall well-being, fostering a healthy work-life balance.  You create healthy habits for your lifestyle using the PURPOSEFUL PLANNER SYSTEM.  For example, every week you write your “SELF CARE” down in the prompt on the weekly page.  My SELF-CARE consists of Chi-Gong, walking and having coffee with a friend.

 

Be productive structuring your timeSTEP 3:  STRUCTURED TIME.  With COMMITTED and LIFESTYLE time in place, what remains are the unmarked blocks.  This is your BLANK CANVAS for the week for you to mark the tasks you want to get done to achieve your goals and projects.  These are what I call your “STRUCTURED” TIME BLOCKS.  You mark these blocks with an ‘S’.  These are your opportunities to plan and execute tasks related to your business.  Tasks like REVENUE GENERATING tasks.  The tasks that bring money into your business.

CREATE POWER HOURS:  Within your ‘STRUCTURED TIME” consider creating POWER HOURS.
