There comes a time in a direct sales business when you wonder if what you’re doing is really worth it? That time for me was driving home on a cold winter night in Colorado with only two sales in my briefcase, no bookings, no recruit leads. It’s late. I’m tired, and I’m thinking, “Was this really worth my time and effort?”
However, one of the women at the party had pulled me aside as I was packing up and asked “me” if I’d meet her for coffee the next day. She didn’t order any product and she showed no interest at all in booking a party. I secretly hoped she wanted to do the business, but was feeling depressed about the low returns from the party and that the little voice inside my head kept saying, “Are you nuts? She didn’t order or book, why would you think she’d be interested in joining?”
Well as it turned out she did join my organization mostly because she loved my fashions and my fashion demonstration. What she was most interested in was my “Winning Wardrobe Solution” where I helped women “save” money in their closet. The two of us formed a partnership and created a marketing strategy to share my wardrobe “savings” plan and her “investment” plan and together we developed presentations around the city. I called it the “dog and pony” show. We reached out to hundreds of women and gather qualified leads for both our businesses.
Are you sitting at home in front of your computer waiting for the world to come to your door?
The internet has made our research so much easier and quicker. It connects people instantly like never before, but what about the good old face to face connections.
Face to face connecting, or shall we call it “offline” networking, is just as important today in connecting and generating new business and building relationships. A face to face meeting is a solid connection where you have the opportunity to make a first impression, build a friendship and instant trust.
The growth spurt that occurred in my business when I joint ventured with my financial planner friend was enormous. I sold more products, added new hostesses and gained new recruits who joined my team.
How many people have you connected with this week? If you’re sitting at your computer wondering why you have no sales or bookings, look for some organizations to join and get out of your house and meet someone “face to face.”
