I’ll never forget the exact moment I saw the BIG PICTURE in my Direct Sales business that led to the results in growing a million-dollar team.
It was my first ever direct sales conference. I’d flown all night from Hawaii to Chicago and arrived at 6am feeling very disheveled and tired, I’d never attended a conference, never been to Chicago and knew only one person, my sponsor who was from Minnesota. I found the bus to the hotel and it was full of women from my company who I recognized because we were all wearing our fashions.
I plopped down in the bus and thought I’d catch a few zzz’s on the way to the hotel, but the energy and the excitement in that bus was overpowering. I was excited to attend my first conference, but as an introvert I thought I’d observe and I’d watch how people acted in this direct sales world. But on that bus, I soon found people were asking me where I was from and how long I’d been in the business and before I stepped into the hotel, I had made a bunch of new friends.
I’d never seen and met so many women JUST LIKE ME! They were there to learn – learn from the amazing workshops – learn from each other and learn how to grow a direct sales business in order to be successful.
You’ve probably felt that way too when you attended your first conference, but what I remember most was that MOMENT when a speaker said…
“Who wants to earn $100,000 in your Direct Sales Business – put your hand up high!”
Well that was me! I was making big changes in my life. My three children were all in private college, my husband was transitioning between jobs and I knew I had to earn enough income to help them get through college. They were my BIG WHY!
It was in that moment I saw the BIG PICTURE and I made a decision. I could see how I was going to grow and I was determined to make this Direct Sales business work!
The leader who taught that workshop showed me the way.
She shared three important things. We had to master the skills of selling. Master the skills of having a full calendar of bookings, and master the skills of recruiting biz builders on our team. It was that simple!

Then it was about getting INTENTIONAL in learning the skills – working with a coach and making that INVESTMENT that I could afford. This is what I call INVESTING WISELY in your business.
How did I master the skills?
- I threw myself into holding TWO parties a week.
- I create a weekly appointment day – inviting people to make one-on-one appointments.
- At those personal appointments I got really good at getting bookings.
- Once I began to have lots and lots of parties I learned how to recognize prospects.
- I learned the art of sharing my business opportunity every week and the recruits began to join my team.
How did I get support and accountability?
- During this time, I was attending every training from my company!
- I was working with my coach,
- I was investing in personal development.
How could I afford to Invest?
- I invested wisely. I always asked myself was this investment relevant NOW!
- Was the investment going to help me become a better leader?
- Was I willing to do ONE MORE party, make ONE MORE sale, recruit ONE MORE team builder to earn the income to pay for the support and accountability.
It ALL PAID OFF and I use this pattern today in my coaching business
